Privacy policy
This is how I handle your personal information when you visit jimmcguire.me, get in touch, or work with me. I've kept it short and in plain English. If anything's unclear, just ask.
Who I am
I'm Jim McGuire, a web designer based in Leeds, UK. I'm the data controller for the personal information described here, which means I'm responsible for it.
You can reach me by email at jim@jimmcguire.me or on WhatsApp at +44 7955 868101.
What I collect and why
- Messages you send me. If you contact me on WhatsApp or by email, I'll have your name, your phone number or email address, and whatever you tell me. I use this to reply and, if we work together, to provide my services. The message windows on this site don't store anything; they just open WhatsApp with your message filled in.
- Client and billing details. If you're a client, I keep your contact details, a record of the work I do for you, and your invoices. Payments are handled by Stripe through the billing portal, so I never see your full card number.
- Website analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without using cookies: the pages you view, the site that sent you here, your browser and type of device, and your country. It doesn't identify you or follow you around the web.
- Technical information. Like every website, the servers that deliver this site briefly process your IP address and browser details to keep it running and secure.
My legal reasons for using it
- Contract when you're a client, or asking about becoming one.
- Legitimate interests for replying to messages, keeping the site secure and counting visits.
- Legal obligation for keeping financial records, which HMRC requires.
Who else is involved
I don't sell your information or use it for advertising. A few trusted services help run this site and my business, and they only use your information to provide their service to me:- Cloudflare hosts and protects the website, helps it load quickly and provides the visitor statistics.
- Stripe handles billing and payments for clients.
- WhatsApp (Meta) carries any messages you send me there.
- My accountant and HMRC, where the law requires it.
How long I keep it
Client records: for as long as we work together, then 6 years for tax purposes.Analytics data: visitor statistics only, with nothing that identifies you.
Your rights
You can ask me to:- show you the information I hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete it
- restrict or object to how I use it
- give you a copy to take elsewhere
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy
If I change how I use your information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
